VXI Bus Speed Has Increased Performance |
VXI Consortium announced earlier this year that a new revision to the VXIbus specification will incorporate the VME64 and 2eVME protocols to drastically increase the speed and performance of a VXI based system. The new revision (Revision 3.0) allows 64-bit addressing and permits data transfers rates up to 160MB/s. This announcement of doubling the bus performance will reduce test times and acquisition. The VXIbus will maintain its open architecture approach and will now be one of the fastest commercial back planes available today. In addition, the new revision will take advantage of the 64-bit processing from the personal computers (PC) yet will remain completely independent of the PC bus. Future controllers and Rev 3.0 instruments will be able to take advantage of the new technology. In fact, the new revision will allow existing VXI Rev 2.0 instruments to operate along with any new VXI Rev 3.0 instrumentation within the same chassis.
